The immersive production, directed by Alex Timbers, will turn the Circle in the Square Theatre into a nightclub with a live big band.

2024 Tony winner Jonathan Groff has already set his return to Broadway, in a jukebox biomusical centered on the life and music of “Beyond the Sea” singer Bobby Darin. Titled Just in Time, the new musical will make its world premiere on the Main Stem this season, with previews beginning March 28, 2025, ahead of an official opening April 23 at the Circle in the Square Theatre.

Tony winner Alex Timbers will be at the helm of the immersive staging that will see the in-the-round theatre transformed into an intimate nightclub with a live, onstage big band. Groff will be joined by a cast of 16 (to be announced), tracking Darin’s life story and performing his greatest hits, including “Splish Splash,” “Dream Lover,” and “Mack the Knife.”

The work, developed by Timbers and based on an original concept by Ted Chapin, features a book by Tony winner Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel). Shannon Lewis will choreograph, with music supervision and arrangements by Andrew ResnickTom KirdahyRobert Ahrens, John Frost, and Groff are producing. Further casting and creative team members are to be announced.

Groff won a Tony Award earlier this year for his performance in the Tony-winning revival of Merrily We Roll Along, and has also appeared on Broadway in Spring Awakening and Hamilton.

“Bobby Darin was a supernova,” says Groff in a statement. “He blazed his way through every corner of the entertainment industry, but his enormous talent, charisma, and pure genius were most on display when he was letting it rip in front of a crowd. This primal passionate love affair he had with the audience was the inspiration for our show’s conceit. Alex Timbers’ distinctive ability to make going to the theatre an unforgettable event and Bobby’s signature musicality and explosive fleeting life make Broadway the perfect place to experience the story and essence of this once in a lifetime talent.”

A priority access pre-sale will begin October 21 with registration at JustInTimeBroadway.com, with a general sale following October 23.
