Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida Presents ‘Romeo & Juliet’ and ‘Bolero’ in a Stunning Showcase of Prokofiev and Ravel at Aventura and Broward Centers

Arts Ballet of Florida Theatre showcases the famed ballets “Romeo & Juliet” by Russian composer Sergey Prokofiev and “Bolero” by French composer Maurice Ravel as highlights to their upcoming Program III; titled “Dancing Prokofiev and Ravel: A Celebration of Ballet’s Timeless Composers” taking place on Saturday, March 1 at 7:30 p.m.and Sunday, March 2 at 3 p.m. at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center in Aventura.

ABFT will continue to perform Program III on Saturday, March 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 10 at 3 p.m. at Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale.

“Both Prokofiev and Ravel were two of the most significant composers of the 20th century. They both wrote colorful, characterful and beautifully orchestrated music across many genres including ballet,” said ABFT founder and Artistic Director Vladimir Issaev who will choreograph three of the four dances  in Program III.

Along with a “Pas de Deux” from “Romeo & Juliet”, Issaev also showcases Prokofiev’s “Classical Symphony” in Program III.

“Prokofiev is able to be so expressive musically as well as telling a story through his music. Our dancers will create the drama and flair in their performances to reflect the beauty of both Prokofiev’s compositions.”

Along with the classical dances “Bolero”, “Classical Symphony” and “Romeo & Juliet”, ABFT will also feature two contemporary dances. One is titled “Stone Flower”, featuring many suites (some of the suites were never performed in South Florida before) that debuted in Japan for the Michiko Matsumoto Ballet in Nagoya.

The other contemporary dance, choreographed by guest choreographer Miao Zong is “Bole-RO”, a retitling of Venezuelan composer Aldemaro Romero’s romantic song “Quinta Anauco/Con la Miranda del Amor.”

Arts Ballet of Florida Theatre dancers Mary Carmen Catoya and Daniel Sarabia are featured in “Bole-RO” as one of the featured dancers in Program III at Aventura Arts & Cultural Center in Aventura from March 1-2 and at Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale from March 8-9.

The success of Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida is attributed to its founder, former ballet dancer Vladimir Issaev, now 69, who is celebrating his 62nd t year dancing, teaching and administrating ballet.

“I consider myself to be a very fortunate and lucky man,” said Issaev. “From the very beginning when I took up ballet, I knew immediately that dancing would be my passion and I learned to evolve through the years and especially enjoy teaching young men and women the art and love of ballet.”

Arts Ballet Theatre of Florida features 21 professional dancers and 7 in the junior corps.

The entire dance company performs together in the choreographed dances. Among the professional dancers featured in pairs will be: Mary Carmen Cotoya and Daniel Sarabia in “Bole-RO” and “Classical Symphony”. Sarabia also teams with dancer Keyei Rodriguez in “Stone Flower”.
