The concert will feature more than 20 songs of popular Jewish spiritual songs, Argentinian tangos as well as popular songs that will be sung in English, Hebrew and Spanish.

“We do not know the complete set list, but the concert will feature the wide range of voices that we have with Shirei Darom that will blend with the three Cantors for an unforgettable concert,” said Paula Hanesman, the Musical Director of the 50 member Shirei Darom vocal group.

The 50 voice Shirei Darom vocal group have performed with Cantor Rubinsztein in three concerts over the past week to sold out audiences at three South Florida congregations: Congregation Bet Sira in South Miami, Temple Kol Ami-Emanuel in Plantation and Temple Sinai of North Dade in North Miami Beach.

Having a concert at Aventura-Turnberry Jewish Center with music sung in English, Hebrew and Spanish fits in with the demographics of those attending the concert. According to a demographic study done on Jews living in Miami sponsored by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation in 2024, 26% of Jews based in Miami, especially in Aventura, have origins from Argentina and other South American countries. Adding to the mix are many Jews from Israel who speak Hebrew and American and Canadian Jews who speak English.

The three Cantors will sing solos, duets and ensemble arrangements with Shirei Darom in the concert. Each of the three cantors feature a unique vocal range: Cantor Rosenthal is a baritone, Cantor Rubinsztein is a tenor, and Cantor Shelley is a mezzo-soprano.

Cantor Geniene Shelley will join Cantors Roger Rosenthal, Diego Rubinsztein and the Argentinian based vocal group Shirei Darom in “50 Voices In Concert” on May 22 at Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center in Aventura.

“I am very excited to sing with the Argentinian choir, Diego and Roger because of the wonderful rapport we have as well as the beautiful music we all love to sing,” said Cantor Shelley.

Cantors Rosenthal, Rubinsztein and Shelley have all sung together for several years during the annual High Holy Day services that are conducted in both English and Spanish at Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center.

Cantors Rosenthal and Shelley also share the singing of Jewish prayers in weekly Shabbat morning services for the past five years at ATJC with their unique vocals and phrasing. Shelley especially shines in her interpretation of “L’Dor Vador” as does Rosenthal in “L’Cha Dodi”.

Although the set list for the concert is not yet announced, many well-known Jewish spiritual songs, such as “Hallelujah” and the Israeli national anthem “Hatikvah” will probably be performed among others in both English and Hebrew.

Also expected to be performed will be one of Argentina’s most popular tangos “La Cumparsita” along with “Mi Confession” and “Santa Maria”, all sung in Spanish.
