Five Productions Celebrate a Decade of Connection, Growth, and Community Building.
As New City Players marks its 10th anniversary, the ensemble-based theatre company unveils an ambitious 2025-2026 season alongside a refined vision that positions the organization as striving to be “a vital public square in Broward County—where stories spark change, artistry shapes understanding, and a diverse ensemble leads the charge toward a more empathetic, curious, and connected society.”
“After a decade of growth, it felt like the perfect time to look in the mirror as an organization and both re-affirm and specify our identity,” says Timothy Mark Davis, Producing Artistic Director. “Our revised mission is to stage transformative classic, contemporary, and original works of live theatre that explore the complexity and diversity of the human experience, create space for authentic dialogue, and connect South Florida audiences and artists. We realized that there aren’t many options in Broward County for the specific kind of work we do–plays from a broad swath of the theatrical canon that is driven by a desire to bring people together and bridge divides. We wanted our revised mission and vision to claim that reality.”
For the first time, New City Players will present five productions: three main stage plays at Island City Stage (13 performances each) and two limited-run productions at General Provision (5 performances each). This expansion will allow the company to tell more stories and thus create more opportunities to engage audiences in exploring the complexity and diversity of the human experience.
The season culminates with Rachel Bublitz’s Burst (July 2026), a fast-paced, Sorkin-esque thriller that unfolds in real-time over 90 minutes without scene breaks. Set in the high-stakes world of corporate ambition, this examination of ethics, friendship, and power dynamics becomes a lens through which to view the moral complexities of modern life. As personal relationships collide with professional demands, Burst challenges audiences to consider how we navigate competing loyalties and the cost of success. Davis highlights the play’s contemporary relevance: “In a refreshing reversal of traditional power dynamics, the play places women at the center of corporate machinations, offering a vital perspective on leadership, integrity, and the price of challenging the status quo. It’s the kind of theatre that sparks conversation long after the final blackout.”
“Theatre from the Greek ‘theatron’ translates to ‘the seeing place,'” Davis reflects. “It’s where we come to see both the truth about our own experience and the truth about others. In this seeing—live, cathartic, emotional, communal—isolation can give way to community, strangers can become neighbors, and the divides between us can shrink.”
The company’s refined values—Pursue Excellence, Spark Empathy, Practice Inclusion, Foster Collaboration, and Embrace Growth—will guide every artistic choice as they enter their second decade of service to South Florida.
Season passes are available now, ranging from $65 (Double Feature) to $155 (All Access), with savings up to $50. Individual tickets go on sale in August 2025.
