“We are incredibly excited to offer such a unique and celebratory experience for the Fourth of July,” said Marilynn Wick, Managing Executive Director of Wick Theater.

“Nicole Henry is an extraordinary talent and her tribute to Whitney Houston will be a truly exhilarating and moving performance. Combined with our gourmet picnic, it’s the perfect way for our community to celebrate Independence Day,” said Wick.

Henry has idolized Whitney Houston, Sarah Vaughan and Dinah Washington among other past jazz singers in her 25 plus years performing on stage. Born in Philadelphia, Henry attended the University of Miami and honed her vocal skills while also performing at multiple concerts at the University of Miami Frost School of Music in Coral Gables.

Jazz singer Nicole Henry performs songs of Whitney Houston and patriotic songs in an Independence Day concert on July 4 at the Wick Theater in Boca Raton.

“I moved to New York City partly to develop contacts in the world of music, but I prefer to reside now in South Florida,” said the 51-year-old Henry in a phone interview from her home in Miami.

“I learned all about jazz while working in Miami Beach and felt the passion of developing my roots here.”

It is also noteworthy that Henry will be performing at Wick Theater, a venue noted more for musical theater presentations. Henry starred in 2000 as the late jazz trumpeter Louis Armstong’s third wife in the musical “It’s A Wonderful World” when it debuted at the Colony Theater in Miami Beach.

“I will forever remember that role and the wonderful story and music, so it is exciting to perform at another musical theater (The Wick) that has an outstanding reputation for musicals.”

Although Henry prefers to keep her audience surprised about which Whitney Houston songs she will perform, audience members should expect Henry to perform Houston’s most cherished songs such as “I Have Nothing and “I Will Always Love You” ( from the musical “The Bodyguard”), “Didn’t We Almost Have It All”, “Greatest Love Of All”, “Saving All My Love For You” and “Where Do Broken Hearts Go”.

Henry will also perform some Fourth of July patriotic songs, citing her past performances in Fourth of July shows in which she performed her interpretation of American patriotic songs..

However, it is her love of Whitney Houston that will be memorable to the audience.

“We all feel we lost Whitney (who died at age 48 in 2012), but I want to keep her memory alive by singing her beautiful songs. She was magical for all the emotion and love she captured with her voice,” said Henry.

Having seen Henry perform on multiple occasions in concert over the past decade, she has won over audiences with her perfect pitch, large vocal range and singing songs with deep emotion.

Since recording her debut album “The Nearness Of You” in 2004, Henry has won numerous awards for her many albums, including “Teach Me Tonight” (2005), “The Very Thought of You” (2008), “Embraceable” (2011) and “So Good, So Right: Nicole Henry Live” (2013).
