Here is your guide to the shows haunting local theaters this spook-tacular season.
At Curtiss Mansion in Miami Springs, the world of the paranormal takes center stage with Zak Bagans’ Haunted Museum and Immersive Theater Show. Inspired by the Las Vegas attraction, this experience features paranormal experts telling chilling narratives behind Bagans’ most infamous haunted artifacts. This 4-part series is for audiences 21+ and takes place October 16th through the 18th.
Loxen Entertainment brings Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein to life at the Colony Theatre in Miami Beach beginning October 10. This zany musical adaptation of the beloved film is bursting with slapstick humor, monster mayhem, and show-stopping numbers. It makes for a perfect blend of classic Broadway charm and Halloween fun!
In Broward, the Coral Springs Center for the Arts brings a bit of magic, quite literally, to the stage. Haunted Illusions, appearing October 25, features illusionist David Caserta in a family-friendly spectacle filled with mind-bending tricks, humor, and mysterious stagecraft that evokes all the wonder of Halloween without the nightmares.
For something a little more mischievous, Wilton Manors’ Gray Box Theater presents a drag-tastic take on Halloween-classic Hocus Pocus on October 16. South Florida’s Superstar Queens transform into the Sanderson sisters in this 21+ parody event, complete with themed cocktails, outrageous comedy, and a pre-show inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas.
Few Halloween traditions are as iconic as The Rocky Horror Show, and CAST Theatre Co. in Lake Worth Beach is giving fans the full experience. Running October 10–26, the production invites audiences to “do the Time Warp again” with live singers, dancers, and interactive prop bags available for purchase.
Meanwhile, the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach is pulling double duty for Rocky Horror lovers. On October 11, fans can attend a 50th Anniversary screening of the film featuring original cast members Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn, and Nell Campbell. Then, to close out the month, The Addams Family musical creeps into the Dreyfoos Concert Hall from October 31–November 2, bringing Gomez, Morticia, and their delightfully twisted clan to life in a macabre musical comedy fit for all ages.
Finally, The Ghost Light – A Haunted House Experience at Actors’ Rep (October 29–November 1) presented by Entr’Acte Theatrix and Theater of Collaborative Arts delivers a story-driven scare for adventurous theatergoers. Set in the crumbling Orpheum Theater, audiences join a late-night ghost hunt to uncover the secrets that linger after the ghost light is switched on. It’s an inventive fusion of live performance and immersive horror!
With a mix of wit, wonder, and a touch of fright, South Florida’s theaters are transforming October into a celebration of storytelling at its most imaginative. When we asked around the local arts scene what makes this season so special, the overwhelming response was simple, “South Florida knows how to put on a show. Especially when it’s spooky.”
After all, when the lights dim and the ghosts come out to play, the stage is the best place to be!
