(South Florida) – Gary Schweikhart, board president of the Carbonell Awards, South Florida’s Theatre & Arts Honors, today announced that the 47^th annual awards ceremony will be held on Monday, November 11 at 7:30 pm at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center at 3800 NW 11^th Place, Lauderhill, FL 33311.

West Palm Beach, Fla. – Palm Beach Dramaworks is delighted to announce that 19 students from five middle schools are the winners of the second annual Young Playwrights 1-Minute Play Contest. Inspired by PBD’s hugely popular Young Playwrights 10-Minute Play Contest for high school students, the 1-Minute Play Contest is open to all Palm Beach County students in grades six through eight and challenges them to tell a complete story in just 60 seconds. The plays will receive a staged reading by professional actors in front of an audience at the Don & Anne Brown Theatre on Wednesday, April 17 at 7pm. Tickets are free, but reservations are required.

From February 15 to March 3, theatergoers at the Lauderhill Performing Arts Center (LPAC) got a show-stopping glimpse into the “soul of rock ‘n’ roll.” Memphis, the award-winning musical that dazzled audiences for years on Broadway before moving on to a national tour and West End run, is back for its third showing in South Florida. Third time is certainly the charm for this phenomenal production, as its cast received a special surprise—a visit from Joe DiPietro, who wrote the book and co-wrote the lyrics for Memphis (with Bon Jovi legend David Bryan).
