SEPTEMBER IS GOLDEN AT THE BROWARD CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

FORT LAUDERDALE – September is golden at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts for fans of everything from the hit sitcom The Golden Girls to music and comedy greats Herbie Hancock, Ray LaMontagne, the music of Abba, Matteo Lane and more, and of course everyone’s favorite neighborhood Spider-Man™.

One of Variety‘s 2023 Top Comics to Watch, Kurtis Conner brings The GoodFellow World Tour to the Au-Rene Theater as part of the Truist Comedy Series on Sunday, September 1 at 7 p.m. A featured performer at Just For Laughs 2023, he released his first comedy special, Keep Busy, last fall. This Toronto-based stand-up comic has built fans for his unique brand of humor through his podcast, Very Really Good, and garnered nearly five million subscribers to his YouTube channel. Presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Live Nation, this event contains adult language or content.

Following sold-out performances and rave reviews across the country, The Golden Girls are back and better than ever with a brand new stage show that’s more exciting than a trip to the Rusty Anchor. Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue delivers a month of performances in the Amaturo Theater Tuesday, September 3 – Sunday, September 29. We find Sophia out on bail after being busted by the DEA for running a drug ring for retirees. Blanche and Rose have founded CreakN, a thriving sex app for seniors. And Dorothy is trying to hold it all together with help from a new (much) younger sex-crazed lover. Golden Girls: The Laughs Continue allows audiences to relive the heartfelt hilarity of the four ladies who never stopped being best friends. The play is written by Robert Leleux, author of The Memoirs of a Beautiful Boy and The Living End. The show is directed by Eric Swanson, who was the co-founder and executive director of The Detroit Actors’ Theatre Company. The cast includes Ryan Bernier as Dorothy, Vince Kelley as Blanche, Adam Graber as Rose, Christopher Kamm as Sophia, and Tommy Favorite as Stanley/Burt. This tour is produced by Murray & Peter Present in a production presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Innovation Arts. This production is rated 18+ only (adult themed comedy). Building on the success of the sold-out global shows of the first Oscar®-winning Spider-Man™ animated Spider-Verse film, comes the highly anticipated sequel: Spider-Man™: Across The Spider-Verse presented as part of the Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Imagination Series in the Au-Rene Theater on September 6 at 8 p.m. The spectacle will feature the movie showcased on a colossal HD screen, complemented by a diverse ensemble of musicians and instrumentalists performing the film’s iconic score and soundtrack live. This extraordinary lineup includes a full orchestra and a skilled scratch DJ on turntables as well as percussion and electronic instrumentalists. The film witnesses the return of Miles Morales, our beloved friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, he embarks on an interdimensional journey across the Multiverse and encounters the Spider Society, a formidable team charged with safeguarding the very fabric of reality. When differing approaches to a new threat divide the heroes, Miles must navigate this rift alone, driven by a determination to protect those he holds dear.

Fourteen-time Grammy Award® winner Herbie Hancock brings his 2024 North American Fall Tour to the Au-Rene Theater on Friday, September 13 at 8 p.m. as part of the TD Bank Jazz Series.  A true icon of modern music, he has transcended limitations and genres while maintaining his unmistakable voice. There are few artists in the music industry who have had more influence on acoustic and electronic jazz and R&B. In the sixth decade of his professional life, he remains at the forefront of world culture, technology, business and music. His admirers include none other than jazz legend Miles Davis who wrote, “Herbie was the step after Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, and I haven’t heard anybody yet who has come after him.” This concert is presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Live Nation.

Arrival from Sweden – The Music of Abba featuring the South Florida Symphony Orchestra arrives in the Au-Rene Theater as part of the Allegro Fort Lauderdale Mosaic Series on Saturday, September 14 at 8 p.m. With 30 years of global success, Arrival from Sweden – The Music of ABBA is celebrated as the closest you can get to the Swedish group ABBA by the ABBA fan club and approved by ABBA and Universal. This 10-12-piece band joined by the South Florida Symphony will deliver an unforgettable live show of timeless hits including “Dancing Queen,” “Mamma Mia” and “Waterloo” with astonishing accuracy and dazzling costumes. This concert is presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and the South Florida Symphony Orchestra.

Comic and viral video star Eric D’Alessandro appears in the Amaturo Theater on Saturday, September 14 at 7 p.m. as part of the Truist Comey Series. Sharing original, timely and relatable content for the everyday American, his social media sketches feature original characters like “Maria Marie,” celebrity impressions and comedic covers of popular songs. He has built a YouTube fanbase and garnered millions of video views as well as garnered 255k+ Instagram and 477k TikTok followers. D’Alessandro was recognized for his comedy and ability to connect with fans online as well as on stage by Forbes following his video “Mask Off Remix (Walmart Diss),” that went viral gaining more than 16 million views across all his platforms. In addition to touring, he has appeared on multiple podcasts and TV shows including the 2016 drama/mystery movie Nerve, alongside Emma Roberts and Dave Franco. The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Outback Presents brings Matteo Lane: Can’t Stop Talking to the Au Rene Theater for two performances on Saturday, September 21 at 6:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Named one of Variety‘s Top Ten Comics to Watch, he has appeared in Netflix’s Stand Out and The Comedy Lineup while amassing more than 1.5 million followers on social media. Lane has shared the stage with Chelsea Handler, Aziz Ansari, Hasan Minhaj and Bob the Drag Queen, among others. A skilled artist and pasta aficionado, Matteo has also painted a mural for the Obamas’ headquarters in Chicago and trained as an opera singer in Rome. This event is not appropriate for children under 12.

Called “a marvel of nature” by People magazine, Grammy® Award winner Ray LaMontagne brings his Long Way Home Tour to the Au-Rene Theater in a concert presented by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Live Nation on Friday, September 27 at 8 p.m. Five of the singer/songwriter’s studio albums were in the Top 10 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums charts with his 2010 God Willin’ & the Creek Don’t Rise winning the Grammy® for Best Folk Album and the song “Beg Steal or Borrow” being nominated as Song of the Year. Each release from his catalogue carries its own character leading his vast sonic catalogue to be described as “a perfect throwback to the lost art of the album-length format,” by Entertainment Weekly and “epic and magical,” by Rolling Stone. He is joined by special guests The Secret Sisters.

The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and Outback Presents bring John Crist: Jokes for Humans Tour to the Au-Rene Theater Saturday, September 28 at 7 p.m. One of today’s fast-rising entertainers, he has generated sold-out shows from coast to coast and instantly viral videos along with his stand-up specials What Are We Doing? and John Crist: Would Like to Release a Statement. Crist has also created fans through the podcast Net Positive and his books including Delete That. No stranger to controversy, he talks candidly about everything from religion to rehab and fans can’t get enough. This event is not appropriate for children under 12. VIP packages are available.
