When Symphony of the Americas new musical director Luke Frazier was hired recently by the orchestra, he stated that there will be more innovative programs and that the orchestra will reach out to new audiences in South Florida.
Although not planned as a unique Mother’s Day concert, the Symphony of the Americas will offer its annual Broadway Showstoppers concert this year on Sunday, May 11 at 2 p.m. at Broward Center for the Performing Arts in Ft. Lauderdale with an unusual perspective. The Mother’s Day concert will feature four male Broadway singers to sing classical songs from the musical theater. This is a departure from past SOTA Broadway concerts that featured Broadway female vocalists.

“I call this a happy accident. It will be a treat on Mother’s Day for our audience to experience the unusual billing of four male singers on a day to salute mothers. The concert, featuring Broadway singers Sean Bell, Jacob Gutierrez, Adam Hyndman and Nic Rouleau, will sound beautiful with unique orchestral arrangements,” said Frazier.
The Broadway Showstoppers concert will also be performed on Tuesday, May 13 at 7:45 p.m. at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.
The approximately 90-minute two act concert will feature more than 20 songs, some performed with each of the singers singing three songs and others featuring the Symphony of the Americas orchestra performing without the vocalists.
Song selections will include the Broadway hit songs “Corner of the Sky” (from the musical “Pippin” with music and lyrics by Steven Schwartz), ”Put on A Happy Face” (from the musical “Bye Bye Birdie” with music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Lee Adams), “The Impossible Dream” (from the musical “Man of La Mancha” with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion), ,“Waving Through A Window” (from the musical “Dear Evan Hansen” with music by Benj Pase and lyrics by Justin Paul) and “Ya Got Trouble”( from the musical “The Music Man” with music by Meredith Wilson).

Broadway Singer Nic Rouleau, known for performing as a lead character in the musical “The Book of Mormon” will be performing the song “Go The Distance” (from the Disney Studios animated film “Hercules” with music by Alan Menkin and lyrics by David Zippel) and two more songs.
“I look forward to singing this beautiful song with the unique orchestral arrangements from Symphony of the Americas and Luke Frazier,” said Rouleau.
Rouleau is also known for his performance as Corelius in the musical “Hello Dolly” and other Broadway musicals.
Sean Bell is most well-known for performing on Broadway in “Harmony: A New Musical” as well as performing in regional theater in “A Chorus Line”, “Mary Poppins” and “Oklahoma” among other musicals.
Jacob Gutierrez has performed on Broadway in the musical “Aladdin” and in the regional theater in the musicals “Camelot”, “Cinderella”, and “Kiss Me Kate” among other musicals.
Adam Hyndman is not only known for performing in “Aladdin” on Broadway, but also for winning a Tony Award for his roles as producer of “The Inheritance” among other Broadway shows.
