Awards will be Presented in 20 Competitive Categories at Lauderhill Performing Arts Center on November 13.

(South Florida – September 27, 2023) Gary Schweikhart, board president of the Carbonell Awards, South Florida’s Theater & Arts Honors, today announced the nominations in 20 competitive categories for the 2022-2023 theater season. A total of 45 productions at 22 different theatres were evaluated by a diverse group of more than 30 experienced judges representing all three participating counties (Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach).

The Silver Palm Awards will be returning to The Addison of Boca Raton on Monday, October 16, 2023 at 6:30  p.m., when the recipients of this year’s awards will be honored. The Silver Palms Awards were established in  2008, conceived to celebrate the work of theater artists who live in South Florida.

DELRAY BEACH, FL:  Boca Stage’s first production in their new home at the Delray Beach Playhouse will be Frederick Knott’s classic thriller, Wait Until Dark.  The production will run in the Playhouse’s Cabaret Theatre from October 26th through November 5th.

With her win of the Critics Choice Award for Best Comedy Special for Welcome to Buteaupia on Netflix,  Michelle Buteau brings her “Full Heart, Tight Jeans” tour to the Amaturo Theater on Friday, October 6 at 8 p.m. She returns to Netflix as the creator/writer/star of the upcoming series Survival of the Thickest, inspired by her autobiographical book of essays of the same name. Buteau is also the host of two popular reality competition shows: The Circle and Barbecue Showdown also on Netflix. Other film and TV credits include Marry Me, First Wives Club, Always Be My Maybe, Awkwafina is Nora from Queens, Russian Doll, and Someone Great. She is also known for writing the Modern Manners column for Real Simple and hosting the popular podcast Adulting.
