I know, my pessimist is showing. As a glass half full kind of girl, I truly don’t mean to start this blog off on such a negative tone. Although, I do feel like sometimes you get so caught up in and concerned with your day-to-day life that the days become ordinary and practical. It seems that this is a feeling most people, if not all, can relate to- especially adults. (South Florida – September 27, 2023) Gary Schweikhart, board president of the Carbonell Awards, South Florida’s Theater & Arts Honors, today announced the nominations in 20 competitive categories for the 2022-2023 theater season. A total of 45 productions at 22 different theatres were evaluated by a diverse group of more than 30 experienced judges representing all three participating counties (Broward, Miami-Dade, Palm Beach).
I’m writing this just as word came in of a tentative deal that would end the Hollywood writers strike. Which is welcome news, of course, for our country’s creatives and, by extension for all of us, their audience. But I can’t help feeling sorry for everyone involved in the glittery, glamorous, immensely lucrative (for the rare few) … but also incredibly caustic and phony movie business.
