THE CAPPIES AWARDS CELEBRATE HIGH SCHOOL THEATER AT THE BROWARD CENTER FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS

FORT LAUDERDALE – The Broward Center for the Performing Arts and South Florida Cappies Inc. present the 22nd Annual Cappies Awards celebrating outstanding achievement in high school theater on Tuesday, May 21 at 7 p.m. in the Au-Rene Theater.

Nominees from 26 schools in Broward and Palm Beach will compete for the awards in 48 categories recognizing performers, orchestras, designers, technicians, publicists and critics. Modeled after Broadway’s Tony® Awards, the Cappies Awards will feature songs and scenes from the top-nominated shows.

NSU University School in Davie received the most nominations at 23 with 19 for the most-nominated musical production, Amélie Teen Edition, and four for criticism. A.W. Dreyfoos School for the Arts in Palm Beach received the most nominations for a play for its production of Twelfth Night. With seven, Cooper City High School had the most nominations for criticism.

Cappie Award nominations are made by student critics from participating schools who attend productions at rival schools and write reviews, which then are edited by theater educators and published on FloridaTheaterOnStage.com. Winners are determined by votes from students through a weighted peer-review voting process.
